Two comets roam the contested sectors: one of ice and one of fire. Each shows up now and then on a random map, never both on the same one. There’s no warning: you’ll see the tail from very far away.
The route
The comet enters from one edge of the map and crosses the whole of it in a straight line, slowly: it takes about 25 minutes end to end. If it reaches the other side it leaves, taking anything that hasn’t been broken with it.
Breaking it
The comet doesn’t shoot. You hit it like any other target, and when it reaches zero it splits:
| Piece | How many | At zero |
|---|---|---|
| Large | 1 | Splits in 2 |
| Medium | 2 | Each splits in 2 |
| Small | 4 | Destroyed |
The pieces fly off in different directions, faster, so the group has to split up. And every break explodes: don’t hug a piece that’s about to go.
The hazards
- Ramming the rock hurts a lot, on both types.
- Fire: its aura and its trail burn. Attack it from the sides, never from behind.
- Ice: its trail slows you by 40% for 4 seconds. With a piece getting away, that matters.
The reward
Every piece pays when it breaks to everyone who dealt at least 5% of its damage, whatever their faction. Per whole comet:
| Comet | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Ice | 1,100 quasicrystal and 900 energy fragments |
| Fire | 6,200 Nexite and 15 Elisium |
| Both | 1,280 experience |
Your share shows on screen as soon as each piece goes down. Comets don’t drop technology blueprints, but they can drop something rarer: see the premium designs news.
