Changing sector used to mean flying through a disc of light. Now it is something else: space breaks open in front of your nose.
The rift
When you jump, a thin vertical cut first appears in the void. Then its edges open, white-hot, and lightning arcs from one side to the other. The starfield warps around it, as if the rift were pulling on it.
It is not a flat picture: circle it and you can see depth inside. Another player watching you jump from the side sees it just as well as you do head-on.
As you cross, the view stretches into the rift and fades to blue. Arriving in the new sector is the same in reverse: the rift opens and you fly out of it.
Event portals swallow your ship
Raid and anomaly portals keep their ring, but now the whole entry is visible:
- Your ship falls into the vortex, stretches and vanishes inside.
- On arrival, it comes out of the portal stretched and snaps back into shape.
- You are invulnerable while going in and coming out. Nobody can use that moment to finish you.
- Other players in the sector see the portal swallow your ship, so it is clear who has gone in and who has just arrived.
What changes in play
None of the jump rules: timings, costs and destinations are the same as ever. What changes is that you can now see it. A squadron jumping together leaves a row of rifts in the void, and a raid begins with the group vanishing into the ring one after another.
